Set on the edge of the small village of Blevio within a 7 acre lake front property, Villa Maria Serena is a true gem. This historic villa is located only a few kilometres from the glamour of downtown Como, directly opposite the famous Grand Hotel Villa d’Este.
The neoclassical villa develops over three floors. Large windows, French doors, a terrace, a balcony and a private boat deck ensure that you get the most of this unusually beautiful setting. What makes the villa different is the fact that the house is literally suspended over the water and that it enjoys total privacy - a rare quality on Como.
The large manicured park dating from the 19th century is in marvelous shape thanks to the exceptionally dedicated and knowledgeable owners. A private gate in the wall which encloses the entire property leads to the charming village of Blevio with its old church, a charming square and harbour, a public waterfront park, a public vaporetto dock access and a gourmet restaurant.
Overview
This historical 18th century lakeshore mansion is located in a stunning position three miles from the charming old city Como – straight in front of the iconic Grand Hotel Villa d’Este – and accommodates up to 12 people in 6 luxuriously bedrooms all with exclusive marble bathrooms. The service of a very high level will be provided by the professional staff.
The overall property consists in two twin aristocratic side-by-side interconnected lakeside villas – Villa Maria Taglioni and Villa Maria Serena – dating back to the 18th century. Both have been completely renovated and personally refurnished by the owners and offer the very best of modern living combined with wonderful fine furniture of the family.
They are securely located, down a quarter mile gated road guarded by a quaint old gate-house, in the midst of seven acres of luxuriant gardens and woods which also protect the Villa Maria Serena.
The two residences are separated by a small historic harbor flanked by ancient terracotta statues.
In the early nineteenth century - when the two residences were restored by the celebrated dancer Maria Taglioni, who also owned in Venice on Canal Grande the prestigious Ca’ d’Oro - this artist was drawn to the Lake Como, and Blevio in particular, by the lake romantic atmosphere and great beauty, along with many other famous musicians of her time, such as Bellini, Rossini, Franz Lizst, Ricordi, Giuditta Pasta.
As well as in the past, the lake today continues to be a place of resort for exclusive artists ranging from the world of La Scala to the rising presence world of the movies industry (yesterday Luchino Visconti, today Stephen Spielberg and George Clooney), but it became also home to many of Italy‘s and Europe’s leading families.
The public areas of Villa Maria Serena include a frescoed salon with a 1900 Blutner grand piano, a dining room with double fireplace and direct access to the lakeshore terrace, a fully equipped modern kitchen with its patio winter garden.
Seven acres of luxuriant gardens include a landscape pool, a panoramic terrace and the dock.
Villa Maria Serena offers wonderful walks in the park from where you can reach the Lake Shore Village with its charming square on the harbor, its 17th century church, and the village garden with its lovely pergola.

There are some hazards on the grounds (open lakeside, steep garden paths and stairs, etc.).
The pool is deep with no shallow end. Children under eight must be accompanied by nanny. Older children are welcome with the understanding they are well-behaved and well-looked after by guests or guest staff. Owners' staff is not available for child-care services.
Complimentary WiFi provided, although there is not consistent coverage throughout the property.
It is recommended to book treatments in advance.
Weddings and other special events are permitted at the villa. Additional fees and special conditions apply. Owners prefer rental of Villa Maria Taglioni and Villa Maria Serena together in high season.
