Overview

Set on the shore of Lake Como, between the famous Villa d’Este hotel in Cernobbio and George Clooney’s residence in Laglio, this historical villa offers lake access, a private mooring, and easy access to a village.

The convenient location makes Villa Beatrice an ideal destination for touring Lake Como – as it is just a few kilometers from Cernobbio and 7 km from the center of Como. It also has easy access to public transportation, the bus stop is 165 yds from the villa and the ferry pier 440 yards. From the private dock, use a rental boat or water-taxi to visit the Villa d’Este as well as Menaggio, Bellagio, Tremezzo and the other charming villages of Lake Como. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance. An 18-hole golf course is less than two miles away.

Panoramic terrace is directly on the lake, with stunning views and privacy for sunbathing and dining al fresco. Lake access for swimming is just below the terrace. The lake road runs behind the villa and is a smaller road with no trucks. Bedrooms, living room and dining room directly face the lake, minimizing any noise. The new pool was added in 2015.

The villa’s interiors are elegant and comfortable, featuring original marble mosaic flooring, high ceilings and lovely Murano glass chandeliers.

What a wonderful trip we had!  Everything went so well.  We absolutely LOVED our villa.  It was more than perfect and I could have stayed there forever.  I rendezvoused with the keyholder, who was delightful and so very helpful. I highly recommend him for meet-and-greet — a wonderful man.  I will certainly recommend Doorways for any villa stay to my friends.

What a fabulous time we had on our trip. Many thanks to you. As I wrote to you earlier, Villa Beatrice was all you promised. Our kids adored it and being on Lake Como was heavenly. The weather was perfect. Mantua was fascinating and I will never get over the kindnesses we received there. The hotel in Milan was gorgeous; ultra modern (iPads embedded in the walls to raise and lower the shades, turn on the lights, dim them, etc., etc). The hotels in Paris and London were charming. Everyone treated us like kings and queens. It was a trip of a lifetime and we cannot thank you enough for all you did to make it happen. I will never forget this amazing gift for our special occasions. It was all I hoped for and more.

I'm happy to be a reference for this incredible villa. A good friend and I rented 3 villas in Italy over the course of a month for a grand 50th birthday celebration. We invited family and friends to join us throughout the month at the various villas we stayed in all rented through Doorways. Kit was an amazing person to deal with and she never steered us wrong.

Villa Beatrice was idyllic. The villa caretaker, Stefano, met us in the nearby village of Cernobbio where he showed us some of his favorite haunts and then he led us to Villa Beatrice. As soon as we saw the setting on the lake, and the grounds, we were in love with this location. I remember saying I don't care if the house is a tent because I'd be happy right here on the grounds. And of course the house is about as far from a tent as you can get.

I can't say enough about the beauty of this setting, or the convenience of it. For us it was the perfect combination of privacy and gracious space, with the benefit of ease of access to the ferry system and of course the lake. When I stayed there the house didn't come with a boat, although there is a boathouse. My understanding is that this year there will be a boat available for rental along with the house. Even if there isn't a boat with the house, renting one is easy enough if you choose to. Or of course, the nearest ferry stop is just a 10 minute walk up the road in Moltrasio, or a 2-minute drive.

The grounds are very spacious and cover a considerable length of lakeside, which I think is exceptional for one of these rentals. We ate the majority of our meals outdoors lakeside and the beauty of the lake was spectacular. I found this location in Moltrasio very convenient. The ferry ride to the town of Como was about 30-40 minutes, the ride to Bellagio was a little longer at about 90 minutes and there are several beautiful lakeside towns in between. The town of Cernobbio, which is only about 15 minutes away, quickly became a favorite. Great restaurants and shops and dripping in Italian charm.

The villa itself is gorgeous and beautifully kept. I had the benefit of staying in the master suite which has a balcony overlooking the lake and even the view from the bathroom was stunning. Because we spent so much time outdoors and visiting nearby towns, we didn't end up making use of many of the villa amenities like the billiard room or the sauna. We of course spent a lot of time in the spacious kitchen cooking; all of the bedrooms were nicely appointed and very comfortable, and we had a couple of rainy afternoons we spent relaxing in the living rooms. And of course there was the table of wine available at a very, very reasonable price supplied by the villa owner who also happens to be a winemaker. If you rent this villa, try the wine. The villa has some incredible touches like the marble floors, the Murano chandeliers, antique furniture, murals .... the list goes on and on. Each morning when I walked down the stairs from the bedroom I'd stop on the landing overlooking the main floor and just giggle to myself. I thought it was so beautiful.

I also have to mention Stefano the caretaker. He lives just across the street and can respond to a question or come over to address a problem in minutes if needed. But he's never underfoot. In my opinion, he was an ideal caretaker. All of his suggestions on places (cafes, restaurants, his favorite pizza place) all turned out to be spot on. If you have some time to spend with him he also has some fascinating life experiences to share and I think is a great host to this part of Italy.

Well I think that may be enough gushing for now. I actually have nothing negative to say about this place. I would return in a heartbeat.
