| Join Bryn Mawr Film Institute members and friends for a week-long stay on the enchanting Buonvisi Estate near Lucca, birthplace of Puccini. Our professor for this trip will be Maurizio Giammarco, beloved teacher of Italian and French cinema at BMFI. Our hostess is Kit Burns, President of Doorways, Ltd., who will organize a weeklong extravaganza of fine film, lectures, food and a performance of arias of Mozart and Puccini in Lucca. Juliet Goodfriend, President of the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, and her husband, Marc Moreau, Chairman of the Philosophy Department of La Salle University, will accompany us. We will visit special sites appropriate to the films and operas we will be discussing in Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Chianti and along the Ligurian Coast, including the Cinqueterre, the Carrara Marble Quarries, and Pietrasanta. Transportation will be by van. We are expecting approximately 20-24 people to be on the trip, in addition to the leaders. This promises to be a fascinating trip, rich in ideas and unlimited in its scope covering opera, film, art, history, politics, and of course, food and wine. |
The Buonvisi Estate
| Here is a chance to experience Italy as an Italian! The Buonvisi Estate is a wine and olive oil estate located 4 kilometers from Lucca. Wine from the estate at dinner is included in the price of the trip. Villa Buonvisi is five hundred years old and is the perfect setting for our group. Next door on the same estate but with its own pool is Villa del Barbaro, where singles will be able to stay at the lower single rate, if they so choose, without sacrificing comfort and convenience. We will have two swimming pools, a pool table, and a home office with computer, fax machine, and wireless Internet access, en suite marble bathrooms, and a screening room. These villas are private homes and do not have elevators, but there are a limited number of ground floor bedrooms reserved on a first come, first served basis for people with mobility issues. |
