With its own language, culture, and cuisine, Catalonia is a bit like visiting
a country within a country. Its people take enormous pride in its uniqueness.
From the sophistication and style of Barcelona to the picturesque coastline of
the Costa Brava, Catalonia offers visitors a wide range of sights and activities.
Val de Llobrega is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the
medieval town of Pals. The beach at Platja de Castell and the town of Palafrugell,
a renowned Spanish scuba center, are nearby. Visit the Botanical Garden at Cap
Roig, or the Gothic church of Sant Marti. Figueres, home of the Dalí Museum, and
Girona, a charming walled city, are within easy daytrip distance.
The
property is famous for its thousand-year-old olive tree. People come from all
over the region to see this protected state treasure. Fruit trees dot the landscape.
One reaches the ivy-covered house down a long drive and through a gate. There
is a large pool on the right, and a covered patio with a BBQ. The wall is covered
with ocean-green tiles, with an outdoor kitchen and a long table with plenty of
chairs.
A large carved door opens into a foyer with curved stone ceilings.
The house seems to emit a sense of calm. The great room is to the right, with
a fireplace, TV (Spanish channels only), and comfortable sofas and chairs. A long
wooden table provides seating for up to ten people. The antique kitchen is the
center of the house, especially in winter, when the wonderful open fireplace and
Aga stove create a cozy atmosphere. The kitchen leads to a stone staircase that
winds to the second floor. The steps are original to the house, which was built
around 1750. The owners have added a skylight, allowing sunlight to stream into
the house, and have redone the entire house in keeping with its original features.
The house has four bedrooms, each decorated with antique Spanish furniture.
Three of the rooms have double beds, and one has two twin beds. Two modern bathrooms,
each with a shower, are located side by side. The bedrooms have a view of the
sea in the distance, reminding you that you are near the coast, even though you
are living in a farmhouse. Val de Llobrega is ideal for a family and for those
who want to experience a truly Spanish setting.
