November Newsletter: Piemonte, Italy

Dear Friends,

This winter, the eyes of the world turn to Torino (Turin in English) as the city hosts the 20th Olympic Winter Games. This elegant city is the capital of Piemonte (Piedmont) - the birthplace of Italian unity and the source of such Italian icons as the Fiat, vermouth, and breadsticks (grissini). The vineyard-covered hills of the south central area make this one of Italy's greatest winegrowing regions.

I first visited Torino when I attended the wedding of former Doorways intern, Laura Petiti, to photographer Matt Molchen (see some of his photos in the Piemonte photo album). I discovered a graceful, elegant city with superb Baroque architecture and excellent museums set against a backdrop of Alpine foothills. The restful landscape of the Langhe area reminded me of Tuscany — rolling hills dotted with vineyards and hazelnut groves and topped with castles and medieval villages. And, of course, I have spent time in Piemonte on Lago Maggiore. I am headed back to Piemonte in December to search for new properties there.

If you are looking for gorgeous Alpine scenery, medieval villages and castles, or if you have a special interest in food, wine, truffles, caves, Egyptology, architecture, or pristine natural beauty — you will love Piemonte. I do!

Ciao, Kit
