Guests at Palazzo San Giorgio are very near the Piazza San Marco where some
of the city's most remarkable treasures are found, including its famous Basilica
and Campanile, as well as the Museo Civico and the Palazzo Ducale. The well-known
Bridge of Sighs connects the Palazzo Ducale with its prisons, and the "sighs"
are said to be those of erstwhile prisoners, though it has also been said that
they emanate from the lovers who pass under the famous bridge in a gondola. Running
along the waterfront from the Palazzo Ducale is Venice's popular site for a sunset
stroll-the Riva degli Schiavoni. Italians call the time-honored custom doing laps,
and there is no better place to do it.
Palazzo San Giorgio has apartments
in an elegant pink palace that offer both the privacy and flexibility of an apartment
stay and the luxury and amenities of a first class hotel. The location, overlooking
a canal near the Piazza San Marco, is ideal-both quiet and central (and near a
vaporetto stop). The building is equipped with an elevator. Its apartments, named
after important Italian artists, are beautifully furnished with marble floors,
tasteful rugs and antiques. Each has air conditioning, color TV, direct phone,
and a hair dryer, as well as daily maid service and fare for continental breakfast.
In addition, there is a reception room and breakfast room for the guests staying
in one of the other 5 rooms with bathrooms (no kitchens) also in the Palazzo.
Twenty six is the maximum number that can be accommodated at San Giorgio if we
include the sleep-sofas.
Carpaccio (sleeps 4+2), one flight up,
sleeps four in two majestic double bedrooms (in which the beds can be made as
doubles or pairs of singles). The large, well-lit living room with wood-beamed
ceiling and exquisite chandelier offers a sleeper sofa for two and also yields
a pleasant dining area for six. A fully equipped kitchen, including microwave,
and a bathroom with shower complete the picture. Tintoretto and Tiepolo
(sleeps 2+2), also one flight up, each offer accommodation for two guests in a
double bedroom (double beds or pair of singles) and the option for an additional
two on a sleeper sofa in the living room. Each of these two attractive apartments
also has a modern kitchenette with stove and refrigerator and a bathroom with
shower. San Giorgio Studio (sleeps 2) offers cheery comfort for
two. Living and dining area share one airy space with a distinctive red and white
checked marble floor. The living area doubles as a bedroom when its comfortable
sleeper sofa is laid out. At the other end of the room is the modern kitchenette
with refrigerator and stove. The bathroom is adjacent. The studio also has a washing
machine.
