Umbria's striking natural landscapes and magical hill towns make it
a wonderful place for an Italian idyll. Villa dell'Albero, set in a secluded hillside
spot 10 km from the enchanting town of Todi, provides a perfect home base for
a family or group of friends to enjoy spending time together in the countryside
and experiencing the culture of this unique Italian region. Todi has a wonderful,
intimate appeal, its steep old streets and Piazza del Popolo appearing much as
they did in the 13th century. A walk through Todi's lovely public gardens leads
to Santa Maria della Consolazione, which has been called Italy's most perfect
Renaissance church.
The well-known Umbrian towns of Orivieto, Assisi, Spoleto
and Perugia are also within daytrip range of the villa. But some days you will
certainly want to stay home and enjoy the pool and patio (a beautiful sunset is
visible every evening), or take advantage of local facilities for riding, tennis,
fishing and boating (at Lake Trasimeno or Bolsena), golf (at Antognolla at Perugia),
or the local spa (at Melezzole). Grocers, banks, post office, pharmacy, train
station, and shops and restaurants are all available in Todi. The drive to Florence
is 2-1/2 hours, to Rome 1-1/2, and to the Rome airport 2. Villa dell'Albero
is a traditional stone farmhouse, comprised of a main building of two stories,
a single-story annex, and a great big patio between the two, with a barbecue,
pizza oven, and patio furniture for dining out of doors. Luxuriously remodeled,
the house maintains many traditional touches and has been furnished with great
taste and attention to the "creature" comforts. In the main house are two large
living rooms, one with a fireplace, a spacious, well-equipped kitchen with a fireplace
of its own, two separate dining areas, a utility room with washer and dryer, and
a powder room. There are four bedrooms-three doubles and a twin-all with en suite
bath.
Across the patio is the annex, consisting of two additional bedrooms-one
double and one twin-and a shared bathroom. The villa is centrally heated and provided
with telephone, wireless Internet access, and satellite TV. Windows are screened and there
are portable fans to keep everything nicely cool in summer time. Surrounding the
house is an extensive garden with breathtaking panoramas all around, and within
the garden next to a 1000-year old olive tree is a beautiful infinity pool.
The
caretaker is happy to welcome you and provide information about local restaurants
and attractions.
