Nestled on a working farm in the rolling hills outside of Arezzo,
Podere Chiara offers a peaceful retreat and is a great
base for excursions throughout Tuscany. Arezzo, only
five kilometers (3 miles) away, is a charming town distinguished by its dramatically sloping medieval square, the Piazza Grande, and
one of Tuscany's most famous fresco cycles — Piero della Francesco's
Legend of the Holy Cross, found in the church of San Francesco. Arezzo is home to one of Italy's leading antique fairs,
which takes place on the
first Sunday of every month. From Arezzo, visitors can easily
explore one of Tuscany's hidden realms, the Casentino.
This huge mountain-ringed basin encompasses one of Tuscany's wildest
primeval forests, the Foresti Casentinesi, and is home to many
charming villages, including Caprese Michelangelo, birthplace
of the legendary artist. Drives along the upland roads offer some
wonderful views. Siena and Florence are easily reached
from Arezzo (about 60 kilometers to the southwest and northwest,
respectively).
Podere Chiara is a lovely two-story
Tuscan farmhouse dating from the 15th century. Its spacious interiors
have been furnished and decorated in fine taste. On the ground
floor is a large entrance hall with a fireplace,
a pleasant living room and a fully equipped kitchen outfitted with a
dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. The lovely light-filled dining room opens onto the terrace. There are two double bedrooms on the ground floor, each with its own bathroom with shower. One of the bedrooms is handicapped-accessible.
Upstairs are three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom with shower. The master bedroom is graced by two huge, beautifully
crafted windows, a fireplace and high cathedral ceilings.
A small second-floor terrace
affords a view over the swimming pool (with solar panels) and the surrounding countryside,
dotted with oak and olive trees. The house is equipped with satellite TV, high speed wireless internet access and window screens.
A garden surrounds the house, with a swimming pool for the exclusive use of guests.
Guests are welcome to enjoy organic produce from the estate and are invited to purchase the extra-virgin olive oil and Chianti wine produced on-site.
