Villa Acostola is a beautiful stone house carefully
restored in old the style so typical of Tuscany, yet fully modern in its appointments,
perched on a hill with lovely views. It is located 4 kms from the pretty hill
town of Cetona and 3 from Sarteano, so it is possible to walk to either town down
an unpaved country road of about 1 km leading to the paved road. From the windows
and the large garden one can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the countryside,
Cetona and Monte Cetona. The location, in southern Tuscany (right near the border
of Umbria), is perfect for exploring Montepulciano, Citta della Pieve, Siena,
Arezzo, Cortona, Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto and all of the other enchanting towns
in Umbria and southern Tuscany. Guests can also travel by rail to Florence in
about 1.5 hour (north) or Rome in 1 hour (south) from nearby Chiusi (originally
Etruscan). If guests want a break from seeing art treasures, churches and archaeological
findings, they may arrange in advance for bicycle rentals or a visit to one of
the nearby spas. Relax in Cetona's charming piazza with a cup of cappuccino and
experience village life (don't miss the open-air market!). This area is considered
the fashionable place to own a villa by Italians, and no wonder. It is beautiful,
relatively undiscovered by tourists and has its share of recommended restaurants
to sample or fine wines to sip (especially Montalcino Brunello, Montepulciano
reds and Orvieto whites). The grounds, duck pond (fed by
a spring) and pool (6 x 12 meters) of the villa are tended daily by a gardener
who has a real talent with flowers. Beautiful lawns, seasonal displays of flowers,
mature plantings and an old oak tree provide a shaded retreat with ample patios
and balconies to enjoy views and dining al fresco. Just off of the dining room
is a lovely covered dining area surrounded by flowers. The ground floor has an
entrance hall, fully-equipped kitchen, breakfast room, dining room with barbecue
and French windows to shaded panoramic terrace. On this floor is also a powder
room and, in a separate wing, a master bedroom with its own little patio and an
en suite with modern bathroom with tub and hand-held shower. Three steps lead
down to this bedroom, which is ideally suited for a person who has trouble handling
more than a few stairs. There is also a laundry room with washing machine. Upstairs
are a large living room with fireplace and French windows leading out to a large
terrace. There is also a master bedroom (with en suite bathroom with tub and shower
and with French windows leading to private terrace), twin bedroom, single bedroom,
and a bathroom with shower shared by these two bedrooms (supplemented by the powder
room downstairs). Facilities include telephone, dishwasher, washing machine, and
TV. Many of the furnishings are antiques and the whole villa has a very warm,
generous and welcoming atmosphere. There are ample sofas, armchairs and space
to spread out and feel like you are in a real home, but this is not a villa overwhelmed
by the personal effects of a family. It is yours to settle in and enjoy. |
