Podere Simpatico holds a special place in our hearts and our history. This property was Doorways' very first villa, and it is still a favorite. Located halfway between Siena and Florence in the heart of Chianti, where Chianti Classico wine is made and can be sampled, the property is reached by way of a rough, hilly, winding country lane that takes you past woods and olive groves until you reach the farmhouse, where you will find privacy and peace. Shops and restaurants can be found 4 kilometers away in Castellina in Chianti, as well as other nearby villages (San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, etc). Florence is 20 miles away, and Siena is 18 miles. The nearest rail station is at Poggibonsi, 8 miles away.
Surrounded by 150 acres of farmland, olive groves,
forests and gardens, Podere Simpatico is the perfect setting for peaceful walks,
sunbathing, and exploring the countryside. A large swimming pool (15 x 36 ft) is set
downhill from the farmhouse in a small copse of trees. Horses can be rented nearby
and Simpatico has an arrangement with a bicycle shop in Poggibonsi to deliver
bicycles, if you reserve in advance. Tennis courts are found in San Donato, about
5 miles away, and golf at Ugolino on the edge of Florence, about 40 minutes away. Enjoy a glass of wine on the patio or by the pool and watch the sun go down in the glorious Tuscan hills as the distant villages light up.
The beautiful old farmhouse, courtyard and outbuildings
were partly built in the 15th century and restored for use in the 20th and 21st
centuries. In addition to the main farmhouse, there are five apartments, each with its own kitchen. There is an additional central kitchen and a large dining room that seats up to thirty guests. Ceilings are beamed and floors are terracotta. Arched windows and doors, typical of the area, have been retained and enhanced.
The property has just been taken over by the son of the original owner, who bought the property some 20 years ago and has been painstakingly restoring it ever since. Her son and his family now live on the property and have already begun updating and renovating. Watch for new photos soon!
