Le Scalette is a lovely apartment residence within a restored
sixteenth century farmhouse in the Tuscan hills just outside of Florence. Guests
can walk to the tiny village of San Vincenzo a Torri, just a mile away, with a
bakery and grocery store. Visit the Museo Archeologico e della Ceramica in nearby
Montelupo Fiorentino, an important center for ceramic production during the middle
ages and the Renaissance. Charming medievall hill towns dot the landscape, and
Florence is only 10 miles away. The best way to get there is to drive to one of the new tram stops in Scandicci (ten minutes away, with ample parking). Trams run continuously (every five minutes) and take just 12 minutes to get to the center of Florence. Facilities for swimming, golf, tennis and horseback
riding are within easy reach.
Le Scalette occupies
two floors of the farmhouse. Next door, on the ground floor, is the studio-office
of the owner, who designs and produces beautiful clothes and fine linens.
A spacious open-plan living/dining room features a wonderful large open fireplace,
giving an immediate sense of rustic comfort. Conveniently located in a corner
of the room is a kitchenette with dishwasher. The dining area opens onto a lovely
covered patio, furnished for al fresco dining and offering splendid views of the
countryside and the Tuscan sunset.
Upstairs are three
charming bedrooms with beamed ceilings — one with king bed, one with queen
and one with joinable twin beds. The queen bedroom also has a single bed to accommodate
an additional person. There are two bathrooms, one with tub/shower and the other
with stall shower. Skylights allow the Tuscan sun to pour in, and there are many
artistic touches throughout the house.
The beds are
furnished with beautiful linens made by the owner; you can buy them right next
door! Guests can arrange
to use the clothes washer in the owner's office next door.
