Villa Katerina is a splendid villa in an ideal location south of Florence in the Chianti hills. It is stately, spacious, and beautifully situated on a large estate with all-around views of the olive groves, hills and, in the distance, the Duomo of Florence. A 10-minute drive takes guests to the Golf Club Ugolino (18 holes), which can be used for a daily fee.

The closest bus stop is 5 minutes away at Grassina on the famous Chiantigiana (Route 222), giving easy access to Siena (24 miles) in one direction and Florence (7 miles) in the other, by bus or by car. Pisa and the beaches near Lucca are 80 km (50 miles) away. Other enticing day trips are possible by car for tasting at the Chianti Classico vineyards, shopping in the open-air village markets and visiting the famous hill towns of Tuscany. The small village of San Polo is just 2 kilometers. from the villa, and guests will enjoy dining at the nearby restaurant, Paglietta.

Villa Katerina was originally built on an ancient Etruscan site and then added onto over the centuries. The entire villa is about 22,000 sq. ft; the owners occupy one wing, while they rent out another magnificent (and private) wing (about 8,000 sq. ft.). All of the rooms have high ceilings and are beautifully furnished with antiques and original art from the family; and the walls and ceiling of each are beautifully painted, reflecting the exquisite and subtle taste of the artist-owner. Almost every room has a fireplace, including the bedrooms upstairs.

Part of the formal garden (10,000 sq. feet) is for the guests, with a beautiful infinity pool (10.5 x 11.5 mt; depth 1.5 mt.— diving not permitted). A large furnished loggia offers splendid views over the hills on the third floor. There are window screens and fans in all of the bedrooms.

Villa Katerina's property is well respected for the wines made on the estate, and the villa has its own wine cellar, where you can purchase the estate wines or other labels.

The English-speaking owner, who lives next door, will be available in case of any problems during your stay, and one of the staff lives on site.
