This astonishing apartment is on the second
floor of an ancient country farmhouse surrounded by gardens, vineyards and the
gently rolling hills of Tuscany. The small village of San Vincenzo a Torri, just
a mile away, has a bakery and a grocery store. The nearest town, Montelupo, is
three miles away. A great advantage of this location that a short drive (10 miles
over the hills) brings you to central Florence. For those who do not wish to drive,
a public bus stops just in front of the estate that goes into Florence with one
change at Scandicci. However, a rental car is required, especially for exploring
Tuscany's charming hill towns (Siena, Pisa, Lucca and San Gimignano) and savoring
meals at the wonderful restaurants of Chianti. Swimming pool, golf course, tennis
courts and horseback riding can be found nearby. The
English-speaking owners live next door and will be on hand to welcome you. Their
large 550-acre estate produces wine, vin santo, eggs, and olive oil. If you have
a chance to see their villa, you will be treated to a glimpse into the past and
a fabulous art collection. A flight of stairs
(18 steps) leads to the entrance of the apartment. The spacious and inviting living/dining
room has a working fireplace, sofa and armchairs, TV, and a beautiful antique
dining table. The high ceilings are beamed and the floors are terra cotta. The
kitchen is fully equipped and has a microwave/convection oven. There is one bedroom
with air-conditioning and an adjacent bathroom (shower over tub). The apartment
is outfitted with window screens and a clothes washer. The owners will supply
a cell phone on request. Outside, in the garden, are tables and sun chairs. Wine
is made during late September and early October and could be intrusive at times,
unless you love wine and are interested in seeing the process firsthand. I
Galli is just across the hall from Antico Granaio, and the two accommodations
can be rented together conveniently to sleep up to seven guests. There is a cost
reduction when the two are rented together (see prices). |
