La Collina is one of the finest villas for rent in Tuscany.
Ideally situated between Siena (20 min) and Florence (40 min), La Collina is located
in the heart of Tuscany. Destinations like San Gimignano (20 min), Monteriggioni
(10 min), Volterra (30 min) and Montalcino (1 hr 10 min) are within easy daytrip
distance. Rome is a little less than three hours away.
The original villa dates back to the 15th century, with additional construction
during the 18th century. The entire estate was renovated during the 1990's and
has been restored by the owner to the highest level of luxury, comfort, and beauty.
Surrounded by spectacular grounds and gardens, La Collina offers breathtaking
views of the Chianti countryside. While the villa can accommodate large groups,
it also offers smaller, private spaces for quiet relaxation. Its gardens and patios
are designed to provide maximum privacy and to take advantage of the lovely views
of rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards that surround the property.
A stately row of cypress trees leads to a large iron gate, the entrance to the
estate. The villa is built on four floors. On the ground floor is a spacious living
room with several sitting areas, all beautifully furnished with antiques and tapestry
rugs as well as a CD player and karaoke machine. Three separate but adjoining
dining rooms can accommodate large groups but have been designed so that smaller
groups will still feel comfortable. Each opens onto the south patio of the villa.
The main kitchen, designed for professional cooks, is available for cooking lessons
on request. On the same level is a spacious suite with a large sitting room and
a queen bedroom with en suite bath.
The Piano Nobile,
the main entrance to the villa, is reached by a short staircase from the courtyard.
The elegant taste of the owners is evident immediately. On this level is a sitting
room with wall-mounted plasma-screen TV (satellite), DVD, VCR, and Playstation.
There are six bedrooms on this level: one single, a spacious suite with double
bedroom and sitting room, and four additional double bedrooms, all with en suite
bath. There is an additional bathroom for guests using the TV room or the large
terrace, furnished with teak dining tables and built-in benches.
On the second floor. another spacious sitting room opens onto a large balcony.
On this floor there are 6 bedrooms: two double rooms with twin beds (not joinable),
three queen bedrooms, and a king bedroom. All of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms.
The lower level of the house has been fully restored,
but an ancient olive press, once powered by oxen, has been left in tact. There
is a billiard room with an antique pool table, and a cantina, decorated with interesting
artifacts from the estate's agricultural past.
A private
entrance from the courtyard leads to the guesthouse. The sitting area, with TV
and comfortable seating, opens onto the courtyard. There is an elegant double
bedroom on this level, with en suite bath. Upstairs there are two queen bedrooms,
each with its own en suite bath.
La Collina has central
heat for cooler months and is fully air-conditioned, including the guesthouse.
Every amenity has thoughtfully been provided and immaculately cared for. There
is a wine cellar, a landing area for small planes and helicopters, a tennis court,
swimming pool and Jacuzzi, sauna, BBQ, and croquet. Horseback riding and golf
are available nearby.
