What guests say about this villa....“This was a dream vacation! Our hosts and the
environs could not have been more perfect. The arrangements and tips were excellent and the only problem was, we had to leave. I would highly recommend Doorways and Casavecchia.” — S.L., Wilmington, DE

Casavecchia, a picturesque and ancient farming estate, is located halfway between Florence (35 min.) and Siena (35 min.) in the lovely Chianti Hills region of Tuscany near Castellina in Chianti. Famous for its award-winning wines, the Chianti Hills are also known for olive oil, beautiful scenery, wonderful restaurants, parish churches, and fortified towns. The local restaurants offer regional specialties made with the local cheeses, wines, and produce. San Donato is 6 minutes away and Castellina in Chianti is 15 minutes away and, like the many other hill towns nearby (Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, and Colle di Val d'Elsa) they have their own special flavor. Casavecchia makes an attractive base from which to explore the medieval villages and small wineries in the area and also the art treasures of Florence and Siena.

Casavecchia extends over 45 acres of farmland planted with grapevines, olive groves, and pine forest. The owners cultivate their vineyards organically and produce fine wines without the addition of manufactured chemicals. The very cordial young owners speak English and are present to welcome you upon your arrival. They live in the farmhouse, which was originally constructed in the 1500's and was once owned by Michelangelo. The building's exterior retains the typical architecture of the district, with arched entryways, a courtyard, and irregularly placed windows. The estate is a pleasant place for walking or cycling, enjoying the fresh air and relaxing in quiet, beautiful surroundings. You can observe the wine making process at first hand.

Casavecchia offers guests a choice of a farmhouse apartment or separate cottages. Each has a private entrance and offers impressive views of the countryside. The interiors have been renovated and fitted with modern appliances, including hairdryers.

Casina del Cortile (sleeps 2+2) is entered from the farmhouse courtyard up one flight of stairs. It includes a living room with pullout sofa and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, a bedroom with matrimoniale bed, and a bathroom with shower. There are lovely views and access to a large terrace.

Upstairs, an archway separates the balcony dining room from the kitchen, which opens onto a huge back terrace. There is a bathroom with shower on each level. The house has been completely renovated and has modern appliances and central heating. It is an exceptionally cheerful and pretty vacation cottage with unforgettable views. The large patio behind has a shaded area for sitting and dining.
