Located halfway between Florence and Siena in the beautiful Chianti Hills near
San Donato and Castellina in Chianti, Podere Casanova offers guests an ideal base
from which to explore Tuscany. The Chianti region is famous for its award- winning
wines but also for its olive oil, beautiful scenery and wonderful restaurants.
The local restaurants offer regional specialties made with the local cheeses,
wines, and produce. Castellina in Chianti, the center of the region, is 15 minutes
away and, like nearby Volterra, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, and Colle di Val
d'Elsa, has its own special flavor. Here you find fresh country air, yet Florence
and Siena, with their art treasures, are only 35 minutes away by car.
Podere
Casanova, an attractive example of a wine-producing estate typical of Tuscany,
is owned and operated by a friendly, older couple who have been shaped by their
many years of work in the fields and the winery. They live in Castellina in Chianti,
but come to work on the estate daily. They are a warm people who won't let the
fact that they speak little English interfere with their desire to make you feel
as comfortable and welcome as possible. They offer guests a choice of three clean,
well-built apartments, all with enchanting views of the surrounding hills. A stone
cottage on the hillside holds two apartments, each with a private entrance and
patio. The centuries old stone exterior has been left untouched, while the interiors
were completely rebuilt and modern appliances added. A beautiful "infinity" swimming
pool is shared by all the guests.
Bel'Levante (sleeps 2) has
arched windows and beamed-ceilings typical of the cottage. An archway to the right
of the entrance leads to the kitchen/dining area. The kitchen has a dishwasher.
To the left, overlooking the hills is the bedroom with twin beds (which can be
made up together or apart). The bathroom has a WC, sink and shower. Outdoors there
is a small patio for guests of Bel'Levante.

room with fireplace separated from the kitchen/dining area (with dishwasher) by
a graceful brick archway. There are two bedrooms, one with double bed and one
with twin beds, and both bedrooms have beautiful views. The shared bathroom has
a WC, sink, and shower. Outside is a huge private patio.

I Cipressi (sleeps 6)
is on the second floor of the original farmhouse. This attractive apartment has
a large kitchen, typically the center of a Tuscan farmhouse. In addition to cooking
facilities and a dishwasher, the kitchen provides communal space with a marble-topped
table, a fireplace, and two easy chairs. The dining room across the hall has a
long polished wooden table to seat six and buffet. The three bedrooms, two with
double beds (one with a crib) and one with twin beds, look out over the cypress
trees and hills. There are two shared bathrooms each with WC, a sink. One has
bathtub with shower and one has a shower. The apartment has spectacular views
in every direction. A grassy area is set aside for the guests to use in the garden.
The windows are screened. Laundry can be done for €10 ($10) per load and extra
cleaning can be done for €10 per hour.
