In the land of sea and mountains that is Sicily, the beautiful Villa Torrenova
sits at the foot of the Nebrodi Mountains just 2 km (a mile and a quarter) from
the Tyrennian Sea. Sicily is a marvelous island, truly a garden of beautiful flowers
growing both wild in its fields and around its archaeological sites and in beautifully
tended gardens. There are actually more intact Greek temples here than there are
in Greece. Indeed, because of the island's strategic location in the middle of
the Mediterranean Sea it was often conquered and traces are evident of all the
major European and Mediterranean civilizations. Villa Torrenova, an olive
estate of 50 acres, sits only 500 meters from a small town where you can find
freshly baked bread and pastries and Italian style bars, perfect for your morning
cappuccino. You can take advantage of walking paths on the olive estate (ruins
of a ninth century Byzantine monastery are on the grounds), visit the beaches
2 km away, or bathe in the splendid San Gregorio bay at Capo d'Orlando 10 km away.
From your pleasantly sequestered villa you can make an easy day trip to
Palermo (120 km, 72 miles) and its fascinating market places, museums, and churches,
or to nearby Cefalu (70 km, 43 miles) with its twelfth century Norman Cathedral,
or to Taormina (150km, 93 miles) with its magnificent views, charming narrow streets
and ancient Greek theatre. There is a new highway, completed in March, 2005, that
means Palermo can be reached in only 1 hour! Even nearer are Tindari, a
site of religious and archeological interest (25 km, 16 m), Saint Marco of Alunzio
with its many churches and wonderful views, and the Filippo of Fragala' basilisk
abbey (15 km, 10 m). A visit to the Eolian Islands also makes an interesting day
trip. After a day of adventures, a snack of fresh bread, local cheese, and a bottle
of wine awaiting you on the terrace, can be quite all right in itself. Villa
Torrenova is spacious and comfortable. On the ground level, after coming into
the entrance hall, are a large air-conditioned living room and separate dining
room, a fully furnished kitchen (with dishwasher and microwave), and a twin bedroom
with en suite bath with shower. Accessible through the living room is one of the
villa's several terraces, pleasant for dining or just relaxing. On the
second floor is another huge, panoramic terrace, a master bedroom with queen-sized
bed and en suite bath with tub and shower, a twin bedroom, a study with a sleep
sofa for two, a single bedroom with en suite bathroom with shower, and two more
singles sharing a bathroom with tub. The villa is provided with satellite
TV, stereo and a clothes washing machine. The windows are screened.
For larger groups, please inquire
about adding one of the houses of the sisters that live nearby.
