Villa Livia is located in Avola, on the sea, just 23 kilometers south of Siracusa, a capitivating city of Greek origin with an old town and port area. The airport at Catania is
1.5 hours away; Taormina is 120 km (72 mi.); Agrigento
is 241 km; (145 mi.), Cefalu is 250 km (150 mi.); Palermo is 282 km (170 mi.). This is a wonderful location for exploring the entire eastern
half of Sicily. The closest shops are 1.0 km (6 mi.) away.
The town of
Avola has two parts. The original town is on the hillside, and the other part, where this villa is located, is on the sea. In the outskirts, on the mountain
Aquilone, there is the old site of the medieval city of Avola Antica. Today, Avola
Antica is a residential area 400 meters above sea level, a nice place to explore
when (and if) you tire of the beach. A few miles further up into the hills there
one finds the spectacular nature reserve of Cava Grande, where there are caves,
canyons, lakes and beautiful flora and fauna.
Villa Livia is surrounded
by a garden with direct access to the sea by way of a locked gate with steps leading
down to a fine sandy beach below. Wind surfing boards can be rented and scuba
diving can be arranged. There are many restaurants to chose from within two miles. Furnishings are simple but comfortable, just right for a beach house.
