| This comfortable little cottage is set in the midst of the beautiful Sicilian countryside, surrounded by chestnut and oak trees. Casa Etna surely has one of the best views in Sicily, with a spectacular view of Europe’s highest active volcano on one side and of the blue sea of Taormina on the other. Although you may be tempted to stay home all day just gazing at the scenery, there are a number of amazing sights within easy daytrip distance; and the cottage is just two kilometers from a little village known for its castagno dei cento cavalli (chestnut tree of the hundred horses), bound to popular legend by the story of a queen who sought shelter from a violent storm beneath its branches. Dominating the village square is the Chiesa Madre, with its unique façade of lava stone; and just across the piazza from the church is a good coffee bar where you can watch village life unfold while enjoying your morning cappuccino. Casa Etna is set on five peaceful hectares of land, reached by way of a 300-meter unpaved road. The property is uphill from the village but the drive is not difficult. All around is a setting of immense natural beauty. Inside you will find pleasant and functional rooms and furnishings, with some nice touches like pocket doors to maximize living spaces. The second floor bedroom and bath are at roof level, with slanted timbered ceilings, but you can easily stand in the center; this bedroom is reached by way of a circular staircase. Ground floor:
