Sicily is a captivating island, distinctly Italian, yet, at the same time, seemingly a world unto itself. A history of rule by a succession of Mediterranean powers has left the Sicilian people with a unique cultural thumbprint-characterized by an openness to foreigners, a wonderfully eclectic cuisine and a richly varied architectural heritage.

The Villa Antonella is found in a cultivated area 5 km outside the pleasant Sicilian town of Floridia where guests will find all the necessary conveniences. For a daytrip to the beach, the eastern coast of the island is just a few minutes away and offers some inviting public beaches. Another coastal attraction is Siracusa, a captivating city of Greek origin with a charming old town and port area. Siracusa's Duomo displays a fascinating mélange of styles, reminding one of Sicily's intricate cultural history, while an even earlier historic heritage is evident in the Parco Archeologico, just outside of town. Here one finds an impressive array of ruins, including a stunning Greek theater where ancient plays are still presented. Exploring the eastern seaboard, visitors might head south to Noto, a charming city with many baroque churches and palazzi, or drive northward to encounter the famous Mount Etna and the beautiful neighboring coastal town of Taormina. An extraordinary collection of Roman mosaics is found in the Villa Casale, a short drive to the west of Floridia, and the magnificent Valley of Temples at Agrigento is just a little over an hour's drive away along Sicily's southern coast.

Villa Antonella is a nicely restored single-story residence dating from 1890. An open-plan room with high-beamed ceilings encompasses a cozy living/dining area with a corner fireplace and a charming corner kitchenette with stovetop and refrigerator-freezer. Off to the left one finds a pleasant double bedroom and a modest bathroom with shower and a washing machine. To the right are two tiny twin bedrooms (which can sleep two each but are more comfortable for one). A pleasant terrace borders the front of the villa, and a patio and outdoor oven are found in the beautiful pool area in back. A TV and parking space are available.
