The Luce Apartment is a very attractive apartment located in
one of the charming, cobblestone alleys of the Trastevere -
one of the most picturesque old quarters of Rome. Formerly a popular
residential neighborhood, Trastevere has evolved into a fashionable
place for chic boutiques, restaurants and pubs but still keeps
its neighborhood feeling. Just down the street from this apartment
is the Della Luce church for which this street and apartment are
named. The rest of Rome can be easily accessed from the apartment
on foot or by bus. A short walk across the Tiber brings you to
the heart of historical Rome, so you can reach the Campo de' Fiori
in about 12 minutes and there you find the daily open-air market.
The Pantheon, Forum, and Piazza Venezia and transportation hubs
are also within walking distance. Along the Lungotevere, one can
take the #23 or #280 bus route to arrive at the Vatican.
Or you can take the nearby #8 tram to the Trastevere Train Station.
The Luce apartment is located in an ancient house that has been
completely renovated. It is an attractive second floor walk-up apartment.
One enters into a very appealing and comfortable living room that
is tastefully furnished with antiques. Floors are "cotto" and
ceilings are wood beamed. At one end of the living room is a round
dining table for four and a buffet for dishes. Although the sofa
can open up into a bed for two people, we prefer to rent the apartment
to two rather than four people, but it is suitable for a couple
or two singles. There is a telephone in the apartment (laptops
can be connected by modem) and an Italian-language only TV. To
the left is a fully equipped reasonable size kitchen with a sink,
gas stove with oven and four burners, fridge and clothes washing
machine. There are numerous tempting small restaurants nearby,
so we think most people will probably just use it for breakfast
and perhaps lunch and only the occasional dinner, but those who
like to cook will not be disappointed.
The bedroom has a queen
bed, desk and bureau and wardrobe for clothing storage. Next to
the bedroom is a modern bathroom with shower, WC, bidet and sink. The apartment is also equipped with a radio, good central heat
and has windows that let in daylight for all three of the main
rooms.
