The Ciak apartment (pronounced "chee-ack" in Italian) is located in one of the
charming, stone-cobbled alleys of the Trastevere: one of the most picturesque
old quarters of Rome. Formerly a popular, residential neighborhood, Trastevere
has transformed into a fashionable place for chic boutiques, restaurants and pubs.
Just down the street from this apartment is the Piazza Santa Maria where the local
Romans may gather for evening promenades or where school children might start
an impromptu futbol match. This piazza is also home to the church Santa Maria
in Trastevere, the first church opened in Rome to the Christian faith, founded
by S. Callisto in the third century A.D. and then restored in the XIIth century
by Pope Innocenzo II.
It holds some interesting works, most notably
the mosaics of Cavallini representing the life of the Virgin Mary. Also of particular
interest in the Trastevere are the "Farnesina" on Via della Lungara 230, a renaissance
villa decorated by Raffaello and Sebastiano del Piombo and the Galleria Corsini,
just opposite to the Farnesina Villa, with paintings of the 17th and 18th century.
The Gianicolo Hill with a breathtaking view of Rome is easily reached on Via Garibaldi.
On the way is the famous church of S. Pietro in Montorio (where, tradition has
it, S. Peter was crucified) containing in the inner court the "Temple of Bramante",
a perfect example of Renaissance classical taste, built by one of the most famous
architects of that period, Donato Bramante. The rest of Rome can be easily accessed
from Ciak by foot or by bus. From along the broad, central Viale di Trastevere
one may catch the No. 56 or No. 60 bus routes to the Via Veneto area; or the No.
75 or No. 170 to the Termini Station and Piazza Venezia; and along the Lungotevere
one may take the No.'s 23 or 280 bus routes to arrive at the Vatican.
Appartamento Ciak is an attractive 2nd floor walk-up apartment, reached
by way of a spiral staircase. One enters the apartment into a half-mirrored hallway.
On the left is a brightly decorated kitchenette with a sink, electric oven with
4 top burners, refrigerator and washing machine. From the hallway you enter into
a cozy living room decorated harmoniously with antique and modern furnishings.
Prints adorn the walls and the large bookcase is filled with interesting knickknacks.
There is a window facing down onto the street below and a comfortable sofa bed
for one person. In one corner is a round dining table and four chairs. From the
living room one enters the bright double bedroom, which has two large windows
overlooking the street below. The modern bathroom, off the bedroom, has a standing
shower, sink, toilet and bidet. This apartment also has television and central
heating.
