Capri, the legendary island off the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula, has long
been a favorite of artists, intellectuals, political leaders (starting with Roman
emperors) and other illustrious folk, not to mention vacationers of every stripe.
Perhaps surprising for such a popular island, it is not at all a sandy beach resort,
but rather an enormous, jagged rock, upon which generations of locals and visitors
have been inspired to celebrate the joy of living. Capri is reached by regular
hydrofoils parting from Naples and docking at the island's Marina Grande. The
island's main town (also called Capri) and other highlights are easily reached
by bus, taxi or motorbike (private cars are not allowed on the island, except
for permanent residents).
The Grotta Azzurra Apartments are named for the
island's famous attraction, the Blue Grotta, a cavern filled with ethereal blue
light, just minutes from the apartments along Capri's northwestern shore. Just
40 meters from the property is a bus stop, from which a 5-minute ride takes you
to the entrance of the grotto and a 10-minute ride to Capri's "second city," Anacapri,
on the slopes of Monte Solaro. Visitors can take a chair lift up to the top of
Solaro to enjoy views over the whole island. Dine in one of the excellent seafood
restaurants along the bustling harbour at Marina Grande; enjoy a limoncello-specialtà
caprese!-in the the Piazzetta in Capri town; walk the famous Tragara walk; visit
the medieval monastery Certosa di San Giacomo, the lovely park Giardini di Augusto,
or the Roman ruins of the Villa Jovis. Or stick close to home at the beach club
Nettuno. No matter how you pass the time on Capri, you can't escape its enchantment.
The Grotta Azzurra Apartments are positioned, together with the owners'
villa, on a lovely 4,000-square-meter property overlooking the sparkling blue
bay below. Guests enjoy access to panoramic terraces and a lovely pool shared
with the property owners. The apartments are simply and comfortably furnished
and are centrally heated. Each is equipped with satellite TV and a phone. Grotta
