Villa Amore is an exquisite two-story residence of white stucco,
set on a cliff side overlooking beautiful Positano and beyond to the Gulf of Salerno.
The location is sublime. Positano itself is home to an array of delightful shops,
cafés and restaurantsand yet retains a small town atmosphere beloved by
tourists. It can be accessed on foot along the beautiful but narrow and winding
Amalfi Drive; alternatively, one can take the bus that stops on the road just
above Villa Amore.
Day trips can be made by boat to
the isles of Capri and Ischia or to Praiano, Amalfi, and Naples, with its famous
archaeological museum. Ravello, at a higher altitude a bit removed from the coast,
is enchanting, with two lovely aristocratic villas that are open to visitors and
a handsome 11th century Duomo. Among the Sorrento Peninsula's many attractions
are the fascinating archaeological sites at Pompeii, Herculeum and Paestum. Visits
to these destinations can be made by calling the car and driver service in town.
A car is not necessary but may be desired, especially off season when parking
is easier to find and there is less traffic. Free parking must be found along
the street, where you will find a slight widening in the road as well as the bus
stop.
Villa Amore is located just outside of Positano in
the direction of Amalfi. A staircase of approximately 70 steps leads from the
street down to the villa. One enters into an elegant, modern kitchen that is fully
equipped, including a dishwasher. Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious open-plan
room with vaulted ceilings that includes a living area with a fireplace and a
separate dining area. The room is furnished and decorated with an understated
elegance, accented by select pieces of sculpture and other artwork.
Two sets of French windows open onto a beautiful furnished terrace facing the
sea and an adjoining pool area, with comfortable lounge chairs. This picturesque
outdoor area has a vine-covered stone wall, an array of potted plants, and a regal
statue keeping watch from one end of the pool. Villa Amore's
ground floor also includes a twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with tub, a library
furnished with a double bed to accommodate two persons, a bathroom with tub, an
additional half bathroom with access to the pool area, and a utility room equipped
with a washing machine. On the second floor one finds
two queen bedrooms-one with a fireplace both opening out onto a spectacular
upper covered terrace. There are two additional bathrooms on this level, one with
a tub and shower and the other with a tub. The upstairs bedrooms are air-conditioned
and provided with TV and telephone.
A staircase
of 190 steps leads down from the villa to the sea. |
