Villa Rivetta is an original fisherman's house situated on the pebbled shore of Lake Como. The house sits just above the water, in the picturesque lake resort of Santa Maria Rezzonico, on Lake Como's northwest shore. Villa Rivetta maintains its original charm but has been renovated with modern conveniences, including a laundry room and sauna in the basement. This is one of our favorite properties in the lakes, because the lake is just outside your door, and there is a lake view from every window. The stylish interior is nicely decorated and comfortable. A painted wooden boat adorns the kitchen ceiling, giving you the feeling that you are living in a boat! Outside you will find a BBQ area with table and chairs, and a wonderful view of the lake. (The lakefront is public, so it is possible that you may see an occasional walker or fisherman; but the only sounds you are likely to hear are the cries of the gulls and the lapping of the water.) It is also possible to moor a boat near the villa for a small fee. Please be aware, there is no access to Villa Rivetta by car. To reach the house, you must leave your car at the top of the village and walk through a narrow cobbled street and down 55 steps to the house (approximately 250 meters). The path can be slippery when wet, so this property is not suitable for elderly guests or anyone with walking problems. A porter service is available to help with your luggage, but leave your high heels at home and bring a pair of good walking shoes. In the village you will find a pizzeria; other shops can be found two kilometers south. The closest lake ferry dock is in Menaggio, just 6 kilometers south, where you will also find a golf course and tennis court. Switzerland and Europe's highest mountains lie just to the north. A drive (or boat ride) down the lake brings you to Como (30 km), famous for its production of fine silk. Visit Bellagio (15 km by ferry), known as the pearl of the lake and considered one of the most beautiful towns in all of Europe. Day trips can be made by bus or car to Tremezzo (20 km) and Lugano, Switzerland (30 km). Milan is 36 miles to the south and Malpensa Airport is 90 km (54 miles) away. In the pretty hamlet of S. Siro you will find a grocery store, a pizzeria, a restaurant and a bus stop. You can catch a bus or rent a boat here. Water sports facilities (boating, sailing, surfing) can be found nearby, and there are scenic trekking routes that begin at the lake. Other sports available in S. Maria Rezzonico include sailing and wind surfing. There are also many fine and beautiful golf courses in the lake area, and shoppers will love the designer fashion factory outlets available just over the border into Switzerland. The house consists of two double bedrooms, three bathrooms and an independent studio with one double bedroom and a bathroom. On the ground floor is a spacious, well-equipped open-style kitchen and a dining room with plenty of windows, providing light as well as a fabulous view of the lake and mountains. Upstairs is a living room, a bathroom with jacuzzi tub and a double bedroom with bathroom (shower), as well as a lovely terrace facing the lake. On the top floor is another double bedroom with a loft that has two additional single beds and a bathroom with shower. A small studio has its own entrance and is located all on one floor, with kitchenette, double bed, bathroom with shower, and a beautiful terrace. |
