Lake Maggiore is a magical glacial lake at the foot of the
Italian Alps. This is the heart of Italy’s “Lake District,”
an area devoted to outdoor life – on land or water. There are many small
villages to explore and more than enough stunning scenery to fill a vacation.
Excellent hiking can be found in the Valle Grande and elsewhere throughout the
region. Visit Stresa, the Borromeo Islands, Brissago Islands, Arona, and the botanical
gardens of Villa Taranto. Cross the border into Switzerland, or stay closer to
home to enjoy the many fabulous restaurants, cafés, and shops located in
the area. Belgirate is located on the western shore
of Lake Maggiore, six kilometers from Stresa and ten kilometers from Arona. Belgirate
has restaurants, cafés, grocery shops, and public beaches, as well as boat
rentals and a sailing school. From here (15 minutes’ walk), you can catch
a ferry to the other beautiful lake resorts and islands. There are two golf courses
within 10-15 minutes’ drive and seven more within 45 minutes. Villa
Mario is located five kilometers uphill from Belgirate. This spacious, comfortable,
modern villa has an unforgettable view over three lakes. The manicured garden
is planted with palms, azaleas, and flowers. The villa
is built on two floors. The entrance hall, accessed from the garden, opens to
a spacious living/dining room with large panoramic windows, a fireplace, dining
table for eight, and access to the terrace, with its spectacular three-lake view.
The kitchen is fully equipped and has a washing machine. There are two double
bedrooms on this floor, both with a lake view, and an additional double bedroom
with a view of the garden. Two bathrooms, one with shower and the other with tub,
are located on the ground floor. Downstairs is another large living area with a dining table that can seat up to 15, as well as another kitchen (with a dishwasher). There are also two bedrooms on this level: a double and a twin bedroom with a bathroom (with shower). These two bedrooms have windows that can't be opened; for this reason, we think Villa Mario is best for 6 guests only.
