Varenna, built on a promontory, was for centuries a sentinel at the heart of Lake Como. Today it is a quiet lakeshore town of beautiful old houses and romantic panoramas. Olive and cypress trees testify to the mild climate of the area, along with many botanical specimens normally found in warmer climates. A romantic walkway along the lakefront links the town center with Olivedo, the landing point for ferries and steamers. Varenna is an ideal base for exploring northern Italy as well as the southern Swiss Alps. Less than two hours from Milan, Varenna offers many wonderful possibilities for daytrips. Explore the castle of Vezio (5 minutes walk from the villa). Visit the gardens of Villa Monastero, Bellagio and Menaggio (15 minutes by ferry), Tremezzo and the famous Villa Carlotta, and Como, with its historic monuments, churches, and shopping. Located on a hill above Varenna, Vista Bellagio has recently been restored and furnished with care by its owners. The house, set on a road that ends just five meters beyond, faces a lovely garden and has a terrace overlooking Lake Como. There are about 20 steps to access the house from the parking level, so this property is not suitable for anyone with a walking problem. Enter from a large patio, shaded by an old wisteria. To the right is a studio with a library. Beyond that, a cozy living room with two sofas, a fireplace, and satellite TV, has large windows that open onto the garden. On the other side of the entrance is a dining room with a table that can seat eight and a large window with a panoramic lake view. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, and there is also a powder room on this level. The second floor of the house has access to the terrace. There are three bedrooms on this floor: two doubles and one twin. One of the doubles is reached through the twin bedroom, and is therefore best suited for children or a nanny. There are two bathrooms on this floor, one with shower and the other with both tub and shower, as well as a washing machine for laundry. Upstairs is another twin bedroom, with a lake view. The sporting club in Varenna (3 km) has a pool and beach facilities. A tennis court is available and is to be reserved and paid in advance to the housekeeper. Rates for tennis are: 15 euro for one hour/20 euro for two hours during the day, and 20 euro for one hour/25 euro for two hours in the evenings. Vista Bellagio may be rented together with a guesthouse and Villa Vista Lago, a large villa on the estate, to accommodate up to 30 people. Arrival Day: Saturday |
