Umbria's striking natural landscapes and magical hill towns make it a wonderful
place for an Italian idyll. Set high on an Umbrian hill, Villa Fiore offers panoramic
views in every direction and overlooks one of Umbria's most beloved hill towns,
Todi. Todi, 12 km from the villa and accessible by bus, has a wonderful, intimate
appeal, its steep old streets and Piazza del Popolo appearing much as they did
in the 13th century. A walk through Todi's lovely public gardens leads to Santa
Maria della Consolazione, which has been called Italy's most perfect Renaissance
church.
The well-known Umbrian towns of Orivieto, Assisi, Spoleto and Perugia
are also within daytrip range of the villa. But some days you will certainly want
to stay home and enjoy the pool and terrace, or take advantage of local facilities
for riding, tennis, fishing and boating (at Lake Trasimeno or Bolsena), golf (at
Antognolla at Perugia), or the local spa (at Melezzole). The nearest bakery and
bar are 2 km from the villa, in Izzalini, while grocers, banks, shops and a restaurant
are found a few minutes' drive away in Ponte Rio. Rail station and other services
are in Todi. The drive to Florence is 2-1/2 hours, to Rome 1-1/2, and to the Rome
airport 2. Villa Fiore is a handsome stone residence crowned by a tower
and flanked by a covered, fully furnished "portico" terrace, wonderful for dining
al fresco. Eighteen enclosed acres surround the villa, alternating between olive
groves, woods, manicured lawns, gardens and fields. There is a 12 m. x 6 m. pool
on the property, and a barbecue. The pool, portico, villa, main gate, and a 150-year
old olive tree in the front garden, are all specially lit, inviting guests to
enjoy evenings out of doors. The villa's recent restoration was carried out with
a sense of respect for tradition, and handmade terracotta floors and exposed beam
ceilings have been retained in the majority of its spacious rooms. All windows
and doors are screened, and portable fans are provided (including a ceiling fan
in the master bedroom). The English-speaking caretaker is happy to welcome you
and provide information on local restaurants and attractions.
On the ground
floor is a spacious living room with a fireplace, tastefully decorated and nicely
arranged to allow separate areas for conversation, games, and satellite TV. Also
available are a CD/stereo, telephone and fax machine, and wireless Internet access. There is a designer kitchen
with a traditional fireplace for cooking, provided with all new appliances (including
a dishwasher) and abundant cookware and dishes. A separate dining room seats twelve.
Also on the ground floor are a utility room with two washing machines and a dryer,
as well as iron and ironing board and a supplemental fridge, and a full guest
bathroom with shower.
Upstairs are three queen bedrooms and one with twin
beds, all with orthopedic mattresses, and two full bathrooms, one with a "seated"
shower, the other with a shower/tub combination. On the mansard level is the master
bedroom, with a queen orthopedic mattress and with en suite bathroom with shower.
The villa is centrally heated, and portable fans are available to keep everything
cool in summertime.
A separate stone guest cottage can accommodate two
or three additional guests. The cottage has one bedroom with queen bed, one daybed,
and one bathroom.
