Umbria is known for its natural beauty and warm hospitality. In the heart of Umbria, the hill town of Montegabbione occupies a particularly strategic position halfway between Rome and Florence (about 150 km from both), between Orvieto and Perugia (about 40 km from both), and between the lakes of Bolsena and Trasimeno (about 60 km from both). Local attractions include the church of Madonna della Grazia, the ruins of the Abbey of Aqualta, and the magical Franciscan monastery, La Scarzuola, considered to be the best specimen of the "Ideal City" designed by architect Tomaso Buzzi. Montegabbione hosts a chocolate festival each October, with an intoxicating assortment of pastries and cakes made by the best bakers of Umbria and central Italy. The location is rural yet central, and is an ideal base for exploring Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Cortona, and the many captivating hill towns of Umbria and southern Tuscany. The ground floor has a center hall, lined with portraits, leading to a large double living room connected by a series of arches. There are two fireplaces, one in the living room, and another in an upstairs sitting room. The handsome dining room seats up to sixteen people comfortably. There is a separate sitting room on the ground floor, as well as a library, a studio with one single bed, and a bathroom. There is a bedroom with single bed and a bathroom ensuite. The large kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, range, oven, dishwasher, and microwave, and is beautifully decorated with tile and stone. There is a laundry room with a washing machine. A covered porch leading to a large stone terrace is a wonderful spot for dining al fresco, and there is a BBQ on the grounds. A swimming pool (7 x 14 meters) is located on a lower terrace. On the second floor there are four bedrooms (three with double beds, one with twins) as well as three bathrooms and two small sitting rooms. There are three independent apartments: one with two bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with a twin bed) and a bathroom, and two with a lofts (with double beds) and one bathroom each. Amenities at Villia Armonia include telephone, window screens, and satellite TV. The gracious, English-speaking owners will greet you when you arrive and will be nearby in an independent apartment on the property during your stay. |
